Hailing from Kolkata, the Cultural Capital of India, SPAN was born in September 2003 as an English rock outfit. Today, the band brings together a powerhouse lineup of seasoned, exceptionally talented musicians from across the city.

For more than three decades, SPAN has evolved with a vibrant lineup of gifted musicians, each one helping to shape and propel the band’s sound. From early originals like “Don’t You Worry,” released by Saregama India Ltd. as part of Kolkata’s The Underground series, to high-energy cover sets on the road for corporate shows and private gigs, and back again to crafting new original music, SPAN’s story has always been about growth, reinvention, and the shared journey of the band and its people.

SPAN brings an electrifying mix of rock and pop, performing hits from legendary artists across eras — from The Beatles, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Eagles, Def Leppard, Michael Jackson, U2, Dire Straits, Oasis, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Coldplay to modern icons like Linkin Park, Green Day, Bruno Mars, Adele, Ed Sheeran, and Imagine Dragons — and many more.

From the very beginning, SPAN found its home on Thursday nights at SomePlace Else (SPE) in The Park Hotel Kolkata, holding a steady spot on the city’s live music calendar. As the band began touring across the country for corporate and private shows, the name SPAN gradually became synonymous with classic rock. Over the years, they have remained one of the few Kolkata bands committed to delivering a full English rock set, staying true to the sound and spirit they started with.
